Geological Museum

The Geological Exhibition displays minerals, fossils and rock samples from all over Hungary.

The museum is temporarily closed for an unknown period of time for technical reasons.


The museum can be visited on Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm.

Prior arrangement is needed at least a week ahead. The possible tour dates depend on the tour guides' other tasks, such as field work, holidays, etc.

Records of 450 million years from Hungary
The geological history of Hungary and the Carpathian Basin is introduced from the Silurian Period till today.

Beauty and value – Minerals and ores from Hungary
Spectacular ores and associated minerals from Hungary are on display in nine showcases.

Fluorescent minerals – The Cherepy collection
Fluorescent minerals from the Franklin- and Sterling mines, USA were donated to the collection by the Cherepy family.

Rudapithecus hungaricus
The bones of Rudapitchecus hungaricus are among the most famous remains from Hungary.

Dinosaurs from Hungary
Dino footprints and bones from the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods are put on show in the building. The reconstrucion is the work of Tibor Pecsics.

János Böckh’s certificate of nobility is on display as a courtesy of the descendants of the Böckh family.
