Mineral Resource Expert Group – MREG - meeting

       The Mineral Resource Expert Group (MREG) http://www.eurogeosurveys.org/expertgroups/mineral-resources/) of EuroGeoSurveys held its meeting in Budapest on April 18-19. 

     The participants discussed the latest results of the numerous ongoing EU-funded projects (Minerals4EU, MIREU, ORAMA, NEXT) in which many of the national geological surveys are partners, as well as the new projects addressing raw materials in the frame of the Geo-ERA program to be started in July 2018.
     The next day the participants attended a field trip, where they visited the Lábatlan Holcim Cement Factory Knowledge Centre, the travertine quarry at Süttő, the red mud tailing at Almásfüzitő, as well as the Tata Geo-Park.
     The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of EuroGeoSurveys, as well as the representative of DG GROW, they both emphasized the importance of life-cycle assessment and circular economy in the sustainable resource management of the 21th century.
